Jewel tones invoke a feeling of nobility and opulence. Perhaps even a touch of glam. Most of us associate them with, well, jewelry and precious stones such as sapphire, amethyst, jade, opal, ruby and so on. But if you think about it, jewel tones are the very colors found in nature (think peacock).
Jewel tones tend to be rich and saturated in color, so a little may go a long way. But, if you respond well to these saturated tones, then going bold may just be the ticket to create a vibrant and invigorating space.
Because jewel tones are so versatile, it's easy to incorporate them into just about any style of décor, from Traditional to Bohemian. The can make a larges space feel more intimate and inviting, while having the ability to enhance the coziness of a small space. If you are not so sure you can commit to big bold use of jewel tones, try pairing them with neutrals. They partner especially well with grey tones. Artwork, pillows and throws can all add a boost of bejeweled opulence without committing to too much.
However, if you love the luscious look of saturated colors, then try something a little more bold. Paint your room purple! You might surprise yourself how much you love it! Try a blue dining room and feel like the king or the queen of the table. Or, sprinkle in some hot pink, if you're feeling especially sassy.
Listen, I get it. Painting your wall blue, or your cabinet hot pink my be a bit out of your comfort zone. And that's okay! You can still create that bold, rich look by using jewel tones in some of your larger pieces, such as a sofa, chairs or headboard.
To add a bit of sophistication to your look, pair your jewels with gold accents, such as hardware, lamps or a mirror. It's timeless and adds a bit of warmth.
The truth about jewel tones is that they are timeless. Just like a beautiful sapphire ring, amethyst earrings or jade necklace they will continue to look stunning throughout the years.
