Admit it. When you see Bohemian design you can't help but feel relaxed and welcome, like you want to grab a cup of herbal tea and stay a while. It's one of my favorite principles of this style of design. It's not too stuffy and is bursting with color, texture and pattern. It's fun, and welcoming. And if you don't like to stick to the rules, this just may be the perfect design style for you!
You don't have to be a world traveler to pull of the boho look, but there are a few things you'll want to be sure to incorporate. Here are some of my favorite tips!
Simply adding a pouf, or a few extra large pillows to the floor around your couch say, come sit with me and stay a while. It's not fussy and screams comfort.
Sumptuous shades of red add richness while pinks add a surprising pop of color without looking like you are trying too hard. Add a turquoise wall and BAM! you've got the look!
One of the cool things about Bohemian décor is that there aren't any steadfast rules. It's sort of if you like it, then use it! So, don't feel like you have to stick to just one texture. Feel free to mix it all up! Brick, metal, wood, velvet, linen, fur...it all works beautifully together! One of my favorite tricks is to layer rugs like this picture from One Kind Design.
I love to design using what nature has to offer. Adding plants to your décor is one way to add a fun, unexpected, "live" vibe to any room.
What says warm and inviting more that the soft light of twinkle lights used year round?! They work wonders in just about every room in the home.
You don't have to travel the world looking for great art for your new boho décor. Mixing lots of pictures and artwork in various frames, mediums and sizes, all displayed together pulls together a chic style.
