Pumpkins and palmtrees, cozy sweaters and sandals, the crisp fall air and the promise of temps below 100 are all part of life for me on both coasts now!
As the the sun kissed days of summer surrender to the bountiful bonfires of a crisp fall evenings, autumn is a time to focus on gathering and preparing, harvesting and holidays, transition and reflection. And whether it’s the crunch of leaves under your feet, or sand between your toes, nothing quite conjures up the comfort of home as does this time of the year.
Designing with fall in mind comes easily to some more than others. In truth, fall is all around us all year long. From warm woods, to textural materials and saturated jewel tones, these visuals are at home in any space and style.
But just in case decorating with the bounty of fall is not your cup of chai, we’ve put together a list of 2022 trends that are sure to be hearty, permanent additions to your feathered nest.
Feel Good About Wood
You’ve heard us cheer the health and wellness benefits of using wood in design for decades now. Adding about 30 % wood to your design, be it in a ceiling, floor, cabinets or a combo with accessories, helps to relax the pre-frontal cortex and actually lower blood pressure. If you’ve ever walked into a room with a healthy dose of wood and let out an audible sigh, you know what we’re taking about.
We are finishing up this renovation for a client in the desert and adding a wood ceiling made all the difference in the world to bring about a sense of comfort and well being.

Adding a combination of cerused stained oak on our cabinetry and a porcelain wood plank floor keeps the space light, but still feels organic.
Take Your Inspo From you Spice Cab
To help add a little autumn to your everyday life, just look to your spice drawer for inspiration. Moroccan spices such as turmeric, cumin and cinnamon can add a playful palette that’s sure to spice things up.
We are big fans of mood and vision boards to help to clarify our designs and see how well things play out together.
Thibaut, Acme Bungalow 5, Jonathan Adler, Loloi, Chive, Lancaster Customworks, Emtek, Amuneal, Dekton
Combining textural elements with saturated color always pairs well together.
Touch Down for the Win
Adding textural elements in rugs, wallpaper and fabrics are good for the brain and the body. Natural materials such as linen, wool and jute get better with age (and who doesn’t want something with character!) and are easy on the environment. Wallpaper has made a huge comeback (hint: it never went away!) and all the new touch me materials can be both sumptuous and family friendly. Lots of performance fabrics are both soft handed and hard working.
Our newest mood board for a clients earthy, organic dining room will feature the delicious new wallpaper from Emma Hayes and Phillip Jeffries.
Plant Some Roots
Of course no fall design would be complete without the appropriate amount of gourds, but along with those tried and true decor staples, imagine all the other stunning and variegated varieties that can fill your home with color. These are some of our favorites (although they may not be favorites around pets, so double check before bringing them home!)

From our studio at the golden hour on both coasts, we wish you the time and grace that this season can afford. Relax, recharge, and replenish.
Cheers!

Renee was a pleasure to work with and has great vision. We were doing a total rehab of a recently purchased property and she was able to look at a gutted out '50s cottage and turn it into a beautiful mid-century modern home. She understood our budget and timeline and was good about narrowing all our options down to just a few choices. This expedited the process, made it less difficult and more enjoyable. Once the rehab is done, we look forward to working with her again and finish the rest of the rooms.
Renee at Mandeville Canyon Interior Design was simply wonderful to work with. She was able to understand what we were looking for in terms of color, function and design from the moment we first spoke. She's easy to work with, goes above and beyond and delivers an outstanding design.
I highly recommend Renee and Mandeville Canyon Interior Design. I don't think I will attempt to decorate another room in my house without the help of Renee!
Love working with Renee and Mandeville Canyon Interior Design ! I had the opportunity to collaborate on a large scale design project recently and the results were fantastic! Renee not only has an amazingly creative eye, she also directed a massive renovation for us this past year that included the challenges of operating during the pandemic. She put together a team that had an incredible work ethic and brought the project in on-time and on-budget. She's a great listener. When we threw ideas at her, she was never dismissive; quite the contrary, she made them better. Her patience, attention to detail combined with her whacky sense of humor meant we were all able to smile while producing a home that we love. A great talent and a great lady.
Rene is amazing! Great customer care and wonderful attention to detail.
