5 Reasons to Use Wood in Your Design

Barn-2-1563x2048.jpg

Incorporating wood into your interior design is more than just a trend. It’s been done for decades and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. And there’s good reason for that!

Take Frank Lloyd Wright, who introduced the word “organic” to the world of architecture in the early 1900’s. Wright coined the term “form and function are one” using nature as the best example of this integration. Smart man, right? Using wood within your home creates a harmonious feel with what’s outside your home. Be it woods, trees, a lake or mountain view. I always love to design in balance with nature. We are visitors on this beautiful earth. Respecting our surroundings is more than just an idea, it’s a way of life.

Here we are at the start of a new decade and we are still looking for ways to reap the benefits of nature in our everyday lives.  Still not convinced that you need wood in your design plan? Keep reading, I think you’ll see the light.

Why wood is so good when it comes to your interior design:

  1. Wood adds character: No two pieces of wood are the same, which is why it’s such a unique material to use in your home décor. It adds charm, making your home feel like a “one-of-a-kind”, especially to newer homes that can sometimes feel very “cookie cutter”. It’s the perfect way to blend the new with the old.
  2. It’s durable: Sure, there are lots of new products out there that claim to stand the test of time. But just take a look outside. See those trees? They are what’s standing the test of time.
  3. It’s sustainable: Using reclaimed wood is just good for the environment. It helps slow down on deforestation and cuts down on waste in our nations landfill.
  4. Wood is good for the brain! Believe it or not, wood relaxes the pre-frontal cortex and lowers blood pressure. Who knew there were health benefits to designing with wood
  5. There are so many choices! From rustic to refined and everything in between. So if you’re thinking that incorporating wood into your design just isn’t for you, think again! With so many wood tones and textures available, you’re sure to find something that will appeal to your taste and need.
