Digital photography has made "capturing the moment" much easier, even for the novice photographer (aka: mom). Even our cell phones now take pictures so crisp and clear that it's hard to believe it was taken from a mobile device. If you are like me, you have thousands of moments captured, that are still stuck on your computer, or even worse...you haven't even downloaded them yet! They are still on your camera or phone! What are you supposed to do with all of those photos? It's time to download, print and display them!
I love to design a home that incorporates a fun and unexpected way to display family photos. Gone are the days of a traditional posed family photo, hung above the mantel in a gilded gold frame and a light shining down on it. No, no, no! Today, there are tons of creative ways to display your most treasured pics!
Don't worry, it's still "cool" to display your family photos marching up the staircase, or along a hallway wall. But, like with everything else, style has been updated. Check out these new and interesting ways to showcase your favorite pics! For a unified look, I like to use the same color frame for each of the photos. I especially love the center line of the display below.
Using one color for the frames creates a big visual impact and it allows the photos to take center stage! The bonus is that using your own photography for wall art won't break the bank!
A staircase is an ideal place to display your family photos and pictures of the places you love, as there tends to be a lot of available wall space. Instead of running up the steps in a hurry all the time, I think hanging photos along the staircase walls gives you a reason to stop and smile!
I love when a client is willing to break from the norm and display their favorite photos in a super creative manner. I have a dear friend who hung a long, rustic ladder on its side and place photos on that...how clever! Get creative with your presentation. Add some dimension, or use floating shelves. You can even hang photos or artwork right over the frame of a bookshelf! Then add books and photos on the shelves too!
