The Meaning Behind Joyful Home

When I started my interior design business, Mandeville Canyon Designs, over 15 years ago, I wanted to bring my California roots to the east coast. I was fully aware that my design aesthetic was influenced by the places I had once called home. Growing up in Palm Springs and Hollywood, California, I was surrounded by vast landscapes and mid-century modern architecture. Something New Englanders hadn’t really seen. I decided I wanted to bring some of what had brought me so much joy in my early years and apply that to my interior design business. So, I began designing homes with an eye towards nature, carefully weaving in earths elements whenever and wherever possible. Wood, water, metal, fire and air – all elements that can be found in nature – yet sometimes overlooked in interior design. The more I designed, the more passionate I became about finding sustainable resources that checked all the boxes….beautiful, high quality, functional and sustainable.

Fast forward to 2 years ago, when I read the book JOYFUL by Ingrid Fetell Lee and whoa…my life was changed, both personally and professionally. As a person who seeks joy in every day, this book really spoke to me. The more I thought about it, and the more I started to seek joy in the ordinary things, the more I realized that we are all seeking joy. Joy comes from your heart. And joy comes from the place you call home. That last sentence is what really got me thinking…if joy really does come from the place you call home, then what can I do, as a designer, to help my client achieve maximum joy? Hence, Joyful Home by Mandeville Canyon Designs was born.

So what does it all mean? What is Joyful Home? It means that I am working closely with each of my clients, to understand what brings them joy, and what their family and needs are, and then incorporate it into their design. It means that I’m committed to using sustainable, local products because they are better for you and better for the planet earth. It means that I work hard to carefully select products that don’t emit harmful toxins into your home. It means that I understand the psychology behind color, and will recommend the hues that benefit you.  It means that together, we are going to create and even more Joyful Home than you could have imagined.

Product feature!

Because I love all things joyful, I wanted to share with you one product that I use to enhance my well being and day-to-day life. I absolutely love the essential oils and diffusers by Saje. I don’t sell Saje, but it’s easy for me to understand the mission behind their products.

Some of my favorite scents are Into the Woods, Mountain High and Cedarwood. They mimic the forest bathing benefits and bring the outdoors in (see how it’s all coming back to Mandeville Canyon Designs mission? 😉).

I also love to use orange and lime in the morning to bring the sunshine in. How can you smell orange and not think sun!

I encourage you to check out their website and give their products a try. You’re guaranteed to feel more joyful!

Joyfully yours,

Renee
