Future Forecast: Bright and White!
It may seem odd to some that Benjamin Moore has selected a “non-color” as it’s 2016 color of the year: Simply White. To others, it may seem that the color white is finally getting it’s day in the spotlight! I think the following quote sums it up perfectly!
“White is transcendent, powerful and polarizing — it is either taken for granted or obsessed over. White is not just a design trend, it is a design essential.” –Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Creative Director
Look around. Surely you have touches of white in your home somewhere. Perhaps it’s an entire room, such as the kitchen, or maybe it’s the trim and doors in your home. Regardless of where it is, white is a color we can’t seem to live without.
Because our lives are so complex in this day and age, we find ourselves searching for ways to de-clutter and to simplify, which has given rise to the popularity of the color white. It’s simple, and serene. It’s quiet and unobtrusive.
Have you ever tried picking out the perfect white paint for your home? Not as easy as you thought, right? There are a million shades of white with varying degrees of brightness, and undertones that just about cover the rainbow. Benjamin Moore’s Simply White seems to have nailed it; crisp and clean, but not too stark with no surprise undertones.
White pairs with every single color on the color wheel. It can be soft, cool, warm or even sterile. Elegant or understated, neutral or graphic, white is the ultimate in versatility. The starting point for every artist, white is where inspiration begins.
An all white interior plays with the light and offers a dignified neutral ambiance. It’s subtle and striking all at the same time.
Or, use your white as a striking contrast. It can highlight architectural detail like no other color.
Create a focal piece, or a border to highlight something special without distracting the eye. Such as a photo gallery or an accent wall.
Use it as a “white-wash” on natural woods or brick to add an additional layer of warmth. Being so versatile, white can feel like anything from country to industrial and every design flavor in between.
Now that we think about it…Simply White is a brilliant color of the year! Who would’ve thought that a color so often taken for granted would find itself in the spotlight?
