Voted “Coolest Room on Campus”!

There’s no denying it…back to school is right around the corner. In these last few weeks of summer you simply can’t avoid it! My mailbox is filled with back to school catalogs from every store in the nation! Walk into a retail store…bam! Back to school promotions everywhere!

While I refuse to accept that school is fast approaching, I do realize that many of you are preparing to send your kids to to college (insert GULP!). Why not help them out a bit by hooking them up with a super stylish dorm room?! It’s not as hard as you may think! (In fact, it’s way cooler than when I went to school!)

After that initial chat with your new roommate, perhaps the two of you decide on a color scheme. Your room doesn’t have to be all matchy-matchy, but a little coordination will go a long way! Maybe you can agree on a rug that will pull it all together. Add some curtains for that extra “homey” feeling. And pictures of family and friends are a must!

One of the first things you and your new roomie should do when you arrive at school is rearrange the furniture. There are tons of ways you can rearrange to maximize space, create a study zone, and even a smidge of privacy. Of course, you’re working with a small space, so take advantage of all of the great storage and organization options out there! Why not raise your bed a bit for extra storage? Use these cool bed lifts from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They even have outlets so that you can stay plugged in!

Lots of people wonder where to shop for dorm décor. You don’t want your stuff to look just like someone down the hall from you! Here are my top 5 suggestions;

1. Urban Outfitters: Lots of beautiful bedding and trendy décor!

2. Anthropologie: If you are looking to splurge a bit, maybe on a few choice items, this is the place to go! Bohemian style and high quality.

3. Target: Sort of a no-brainer right? Where else would you go for cute affordable accessories

4. Dormify: This could perhaps be the most extensive collection of ideas and products to make your dorm room look amazing. Be sure you at least check out their site!
